To advocate the values of Olympism and to raise awareness of disability from the earliest age by involving disabled athletes, these are the missions set by the Catholic Jeanne d’Arc de Brétigny-sur-Orge. To do this, the school called on Handiamo! and asked to design an event that would allow him to promote these values and which would take place on Friday, May 12, 2017.
Timothée ADOLPHE (blind athlete, 100m and 200m European champion, 400m bronze medalist at the world championships, 100m and 200m European recordmaker), accompanied by two of his guides (Jeffrey LAMI and Cédric FELIP) participated in this event and took great pleasure in sharing his experience and passing on his know-how around his discipline to passionate and admiring children of such a sporting and human prowess.
Because we think that there is nothing more striking than to make the someone living the same handicap situation as a champion, a track of athletics of 25m with 4 corridors was created for the event within the » school. After having been introduced to athletics in guided sightseeing on sprints of 25m, children, ranging from CP to 3rd, having achieved the best scores have been able to challenge Timothée ADOLPHE and his guide Cédric FELIP. Concentration and motivation were at their peak.
A conference on the theme « Performance & Disability » then took place in front of all the children of the school. With their teachers, they were able to discover the exceptional and atypical course of Timothée ADOLPHE. A game of questions and answers naturally took place with the children intrigued by this multi-faceted athlete – high level athlete, songwriter – that nothing stops. « But how do you do all these things on a daily basis without being able to see? » One could hear.
The event culminated with a photo and dedication session to the delight of the 700 children who attended and participated in the event. A day rich in sharing and emotion!
Testimony of Nathalie CROSNIER, Jeanne d’Arc School Management: « All Jeanne d’Arc’s team thanks Handiamo! for organizing this warm event, which is animated by an incredible champion. The children were delighted to run and exchange with Timothée Adolphe. «
