On November 16, 2015 Handiamo! held at La Défense, for employees of the headquarters of EDF Energies Nouvelles, a disability awareness event around the activity of the wheelchair table tennis.
Thu Kamkasomphou, World No.1 and double Gold medalist at the Paralympic Games, and Maxime Thomas, World No.3 and European champion in 2015, has hosted the event along with their coaches Veronique Prigent and Eric Angles. The employees of EDF Energies Nouvelles have discovered wheelchair table tennis in the same situations as those lived by the two champions, being in a wheelchair for the disability of Maxime Thomas and weights on the ankles for the disability of Thu Kamkasomphou.
Coached by the two champions and their coaches, each employee was able to live both disability situations and realize the adaptation capabilities that must demonstrate Thu Kamkasomphou and Maxime Thomas to practice table tennis at a high level.
So EDF Energies Nouvelles employees can better realize the very high level of performance achieved by the two champions, both have performed, along with their coaches, training sequences that impressed all the participants.
After this exhibition, the most reckless employees could then challenge the table tennis Paralympic champions during one set matches.
After these matches, EDF Energies Nouvelles employees have asked their questions without taboo to disabled sports champions and their coaches.
The event ended with a photo session with the champions and their Paralympic medals, followed by personalized dedications.
Through various educational situations put in place and the very rich discussions shared with both disabled sports champions, EDF Energies Nouvelles employees have not only been able to change their outlook on people with disabilities, but the event also enabled them to find a little smile after the terrible events of November 13, 2015 that have affected us a lot.
